Here’s where the latest Epson L355 driver for macOS 11.x Big Sur is!
This short article is more of a PSA that anything else. The Epson EcoTank series is an amazing printer. It’s also one that can serve you for a very long time. I’ve written a couple of articles on it too. One for how you can extend the use of the printer when the dreaded ink pad is out of service life error appears and another on how to DIY replace the printer’s ink pad. What I didn’t anticipate however was how hard it was to get the latest Epson L355 driver for macOS 11.x/

Planned Obsolesce?
The Epson L355 printer has generally done very well with most versions of macOS. But when macOS 11.x Big Sur released, Apple does not include the L355 drivers anymore. Thus you would need to get one from Epson directly. But when I search for the printer driver from Epson’s Singapore support site, the latest driver is nowhere to be found!
To me, this seems like a planned obsolesce! If you can’t find a driver anymore, then you have no choice but to upgrade to a newer and supported printer model.

So where is the latest Epson L355 driver for macOS?!
But of course this should not be the case. After more searching, I eventually found the updated driver (epson637173eu.dmg) on the Epson’s EU’s support site. https://www.epson.eu/support?productID=11855&language=en&os=38#drivers_and_manuals. If you look at the date, Epson had indeed been updating the drivers as recently as Nov 2020 and Jan 2021 respectively for the printer and scanner function of the printer. These drivers works perfectly also on the new Apple M1-based Macs.

I’ve also uploaded the latest Epson L355 printer driver and scanner driver on my Dropbox just in case anything happens to it on the Epson site. As to why Epson doesn’t update the Singapore site with the latest drivers, your guess is as good as mine.
The latest drivers works perfectly on macOS 11.x Big Sur. Epson has even updated the Epson Printer Utility to work on macOS Big Sur!

If this post has been useful, support me by buying me a latte or two 🙂

Oh my god, thanks! This particular model driver wasn’t what I was gong for, but the links you shared here contained the rest of working EPSON drivers. Epson L382 + Big Sur and printing now, you’re a life saver, thanks again!
Glad this helped you! 😄 btw, just in case you ever get the ‘ink pad is at the end of its service life’ notice, there is a way to reset it, and also replace the ink pad yourself. 😄 https://www.atpeaz.com/reset-the-epson-l355-ink-pad-counter-to-extend-end-of-service-life/
