Fixing the iOS 5 battery drain problem

2

I’m sure you are already upgraded to iOS 5 by now if your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch supports it. Well, even if you aren’t yet, it’s probably just because you didn’t have the time yet.

It’s only been a week since I’ve updated my iPhone 3Gs and I’ve to say that it’s the best OS that’s landed on the iPhone 3Gs. The performance is great and it also feels much faster than iOS 4.x. Overall, I’m a happy camper that my 3Gs has received a new lease of More >

XStylus

If you ever need a stylus for the iPad, this XStylus Touch should be it.

Here’s something I don’t usually do. Fund a project that is.

But having recently used a stylus on the iPad to write notes and doodle diagrams, I now know what I’ve been missing thus far. And now that I’ve found what seems like the perfect stylus for the iPad, I knew I had to get it. Or in this case, did my bit to make sure it gets produced.

Some has called it the fountain pen of styluses. And from what I’ve seen in their videos, it sure does More >

Missing OS X Lion feature #105: RestoreMeNot

0

Here’s a quick blurb on a missing feature from OS X Lion. The auto restore of all the previously opened windows of applications is pretty nice. I like it when it’s for certain productivity apps but for Preview? Well, here’s the app to your rescue.

In RestoreMeNot’s own words, “RestoreMeNot comes in and provides a simple preference pane for disabling window restoration for individual applications.” Jump over to www.restoremenot.info to download More >

VMWare Fusion 4 vs Parallels Desktop 7: A User’s POV

20

It’s without a doubt that the very recent release of VMware Fusion 4 and Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac has invigorated the on-going comparisons between the two popular virtualization solutions for Mac users.

Both has its own merits and depending on your expectations and needs from the virtualization solution, both choices will deliver what it promises to you.

I’ve previously written an article here on why I thought Parallels Desktop 7 just beats More >

VMWare Fusion 4, 1Password and a new Mac in the family!

2

What’s new?

VMWare Fusion 4 is new. Just having installed the 30-days trial and having a quick go at it, I’d have to say that it’s looking pretty good to give Parallels some competition. I’ll be exploring it further in the coming days and will post a my version of the comparison between Parallels 7 and Fusion 4 soon!

As quick news on some Mac apps that I’ve come to rely on, 1Password is probably one of the best password manager available for More >

Fixing Lion’s iCal’s CalDAV password problem

6

So you’ve upgraded your Mac from Snow Leopard to the new roaring Lion. Once done, you browse around your Mac and is generally happy that everything remained working and all the data is still available as if nothing’s change except for the new features and functionality of Lion.

Then, you opened up iCal and noticed that your CalDAV-configured calendar isn’t working and is asking for you to reenter the password. You was sure nothing’s changed, More >

Parallels 7 for Mac

3+1 Reasons why Parallels 7 wins VS VMWare Fusion!

6

Caveat: This is an updated article which I originally wrote using Parallels Desktop 5 and quickly after that, upgraded to Parallels Desktop 6, comparing it with VMWare Fusion 3.0. That’s almost exactly one year ago from today.

Now, if you are not already aware, Parallels Desktop 7 is to be released on September 6. With this latest version, here’s a revised and updated viewpoint on my comparison between the two.

Fixing the OS X Lion bluetooth pairing after sleep issue

1

Upgrading to Lion on my MacBook Pro was great. It was perhaps the easiest OS upgrade I’ve ever done thus far. While I generally like how it is, there are a few nagging issues with Lion that just irritated the heck out of me.

One of it is that when my MacBook wakes up from sleep mode, my bluetooth mouse would never get paired again without the need to turn the MacBook’s bluetooth module off and on. This was never the case with Snow Leopard! All More >
